Endangered Whales Are Sailing the Sea

Most species of whales have been severely depleted because of commercial whaling at the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Marine Mammal Protection Act from 1972 banned the hunting of marine mammals in U.S. waters. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora is an international treaty developed to regulate trade in certain wildlife species. International Whaling Commission outlaw commercial whaling in 1986. Latest IWCs 2010 Annual Commission Meeting in Morocco splat the parties regarding question of illegal whaling. While Japan and Norway take whaling as cultural tradition, the United States and Britain says legal, limited whale hunts are better than illegal, unlimited ones. And Australia and New Zealand, warn that even temporarily legalizing the industry could irreversibly legitimize it. Even that whales population recovered a bit in last years, influence of global warming which increase acidity of oceans and persistent legal and illegal hunting can finally lead to whales depletion.
